    I'm invesigating seated playing due to health problems, the tips around leg position were really useful! Being 6ft 2 I often wondered where to put my right knee so I don't catch it on a downbow!

    And what about the tunning of the "small strings" between the bridge and the tail piece? I feel that when they are in tune the bass resonates more but how to get that in tune? All the best

      I've never looked into that, but I think you can tune the after length of the string with special bridges.

    The Bach was phrased around his shifts rather than the musical line…something I have found to be very common when listening to double bassists play Bach..

      I disagree. I think David phrases the line first and picks fingerings and shift patterns that work for the musical line as he imagines it.

    Excellent instruction! tell my students that vibrato is like a powerful herb you add to your favorite suauce.... It is easy to overdo.

    I've taught this concept for many years. I instruct students to rest fingers that are not actively engaged with stopping the string. This practice teaches them to stay close to the strings rather then flying away from them. More importantly, it teaches them to find recuperation time while they are playing.

    Always love his videos....thats why I bought his German Bow course from years ago. ***Is that one of those Bernard Walke Bows that David is playing? Interesting that he has some kind of black rubber wrap type thing just off the screw part - above frog. Wonder if that eases some pressure on the hand. Never seen that.

      I can't remember, but it wasn't a u87. Possibly an M47 or perhaps a replica of one.
